The Walter Sanders Funeral Home regrets to inform you of the transition of Bishop Sylvestor Holder, age 85 of Middlesex, NC. Bishop Holder passed quietly away on Tuesday morning May 26th at the Transitions Hospice Center in Raleigh surrounded in love by his family. Bishop Holder was born Nov. 11, 1929 to Alfred and Louzine Holder in Johnston County, NC. He was married to Ruby Mae Stancil for over 60 years. Bishop Holder served his country in the US Air Force where he retired with the rank of Major. Major (Ret.) Holder also worked for and retired from National Institute of Health Services (NIHS). Major (Ret.) Holder also, served as the first black President of BB&T bank in the Smithfield-Selma area.
Bishop Holder leaves to cherish his memories; a son Sylvestor "Wayne" (Sharon) of Middlesex, NC, a daughter Wilma Jean (Michael) of Fayetteville, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing and visitation for Bishop Holder will be held Saturday May 30th from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm at St. James Church of Christ 9573 NC Hwy 222 West Middlesex, NC. The Homegoing celebration for the
Bishop will be held Sunday May 31st at St. James Church of Christ beginning at 2:00 pm.
