Angus Fulton "Andy" Meachem Sr., passed quietly away Sunday August 6, 2017 at Moses Cone Health, Greensboro,NC. Andy was born May 15, 1942 in Wadesboro, N.C. to James and Mable Meachem. Angus was the 10 th of thirteen children.
Angus graduated from Anson County Training School in 1960. After high school, Angus traveled to New York City, which was a "rite of passage" for him and his brothers. Angus worked as a salesman in New York until he and his cousin, Clarence Meachem joined the Navy in 1962. Angus and Clarence proudly served their country in the Vietnam War. While in the Navy, Angus received two service medals National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
After being honorably discharged from military service, Angus returned to North Carolina to attend North Carolina A&T State University, the same university as his father. He graduated from N.C. A&T with a degree in Political Science.
Angus is survived by his childhood friend and former wife, Peggy Meachem of Greensboro, N.C., children; Fulton (Jeanette) of Charlotte, N.C., Anthony (Ayanda) of Winterville, N.C., Abreah Santiago of Washington, N.J., Tasha Lea of Greensboro, N.C. and eight grandchildren; Brannen, Xavier, Bryce, Barak, Nina Gainey, Hannah Santiago, Ezra, and Gideon Santiago, three brothers Charles (Millie) of Washington, D.C., Frank (Sandra) of Durham, N.C., and David of Statesville, N.C. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services for Mr. Meachem will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church 820 Ross Ave., Greensboro, NC Wednesday August 16th at 12 noon. The public is invited to view and visit with the family from 11:30-12:00 on Wed . August 16 at the church.
