Mr. George Henry Whitaker, Jr. “Papa G”, age 66, transitioned from labor to reward on Friday, June 19, 2020 at UNC Rex Health Care in Raleigh, NC. Mr. Whitaker was born in Philadelphia, PA. on June 20, 1953 to the late Henry Whitaker and Alice Whitaker Matthews.
George moved to North Carolina in 1976 where he worked at Johnston Harnett-Lee Community Head Start along with numerous other employment positions.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Whitaker; sister: Linda Whitaker; and brother: Bishop Frank Matthews.
Mr. Whitaker, who was affectionately loved by everyone, leaves to mourn; three sons: George Henry Whitaker, Christopher Stewart and Gary Stewart; one daughter: Renee Joyce Hampton; two step daughters: Sharon Scales, and Lakisha Tyer; two sisters: Brenda Whitaker and Patricia Bishop; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving guests at the home of Mother Mary Cox Matthews, 511 Oak St., Smithfield, NC Wednesday thru Friday from 5:00pm - 7:00pm.
Memorial services for Mr. Whitaker are scheduled for Saturday June 27th, 11:00am at Shiloh Christian Church, Smithfield, NC. Please only potted plants.
