Mrs. Joan Nixon Bennett
Joan Nixon Bennett completed her earthly assignments on January 8, 2025.
Joan hailed from Clinton, NC and received her bachelor's and master’s degrees from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. Joan spent most of her career in the Johnston County School System where she managed library sciences for each of the schools where she was assigned. She was a master teacher, organizer and planner of events
Joan was an involved member of both the Order of Eastern Star and Daughters of Isis.
Joan is the mother of Nick Nixon and Stephanie Nixon Mills.

Friday January 24, 2025, from 3:00pm until 5:00pm at Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremations, 302 S. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield, NC 27577.
Funeral Services:
Saturday January 25, 2025, at 12:00 noon. Viewing from 11:00-12:00 noon. First Missionary Baptist Church 403 Caswell St., Smithfield, NC 27577. Services will stream live on our Face Book page, Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremations starting at 11:55 am.

Message: I remember her as Ms. Nixon! She was my favorite Library Lady. She was always so encouraging and a beautiful lady. She was a librarian at Kenly Elementary School in the mid 70s and the only Black Librarian that I got to see until I went to college. She was my standard of beauty. Please accept condolences from me and mine to you and yours. Trust and Know that "Ms. Nixon" is now with The Ancestors and there is no better place to be.
