Charles Edward Cates, 89, of Hope Mills, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at home with family.

He was born June 10, 1925, to the late James and Leora Cates, in Parkton, NC.

Mr. Cates is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Josie Bacote Cates; five children, Thaddis (Stephanie), Val McLean (Jim), Milton (Pamela), Myra Shobande (Jide) and Susan Brandon (Michael); 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church, 195 West David Parnell St. in Parkton, NC with services to follow at 1 p.m. and interment in Mount Hebrew
