Mrs. Gladys Davis Blackwell, age 84 of Kenly, NC and daughter of Richard E. and Lessie A. Davis, transitioned from earth to Glory on Friday, July 7, 2017. Mrs. Blackwell was born July 26, 1932 in Wilson County, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie B. Blackwell, her parents and fifteen siblings: Glotha Davis, William Davis, Albert Davis, Reatha Davis, Inez Allen, Jessie Joyner, Charlie Davis, Richard Davis, James Davis, Mamie Davis, Susie Davis, Ozzie Davis, Doris Lucas, Annie Davis, and Lessie Raynor. She is also survived by a special niece, Barbara Davis Coleman, who helped her grandparents maintain their household.
Mrs. Blackwell leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Asenath Barbour and husband Luther, Sharon Pridgen and husband Jerome, and Mona Finch; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She has also left behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services for Mrs. Blackwell are scheduled for Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Atkins Memorial Tabernacle, 6740 Rock Ridge Sims Road, Sims, NC 27880. Viewing begins at 11:00 am and will be followed by funeral services at 11:30. am.
