Mrs. Laura Louise White
Mrs. Laura Louise McLaughlin White age 99 of Selma, transitioned Saturday August 3, 2024, at UNC Johnston Health of Clayton, NC. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Rachel McLaughlin. Mrs. Louise was born in Johnston County on July 10, 1925.
Mrs. White was a graduate of Richard B. Harrison High and alumnus of Shaw University, Class of 1950. Upon graduation from Shaw University, she taught at several schools including Short Journey and Richard B. Harrison.
In addition to her parents, Fred and Rachel McLaughlin she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel C. "D.C." White, and brother, Joseph McLaughlin.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Shawn White (Lita), Levonson "Buddy" White, a daughter, Rachel "Byrd" White, one grandson Shawn D.C, White, one great-granddaughter Taraji White, and a host of other relatives and friends

Message: Sincere condolences to the family. Mrs. White was my teacher for 5th and 6th grade at Short Journey School. These two years were filled with learning and fun. I remember that she loved nature, so we had a pet snake named Herman and a turtle. I should say that Herman was Mrs. White’s pet, because I am dreadfully afraid of snakes regardless of the size, color or their location. She loved her students so much that she would sometimes take them home with her for the weekend. I have always found a way to keep in touch with her and was always happy to see her. She was a beautiful person and a sharp dresser. There are countless accolades that I could mention, but I will end by giving thanks to God for the 99 years that God gave us with her. The memories of my time with her are tucked safely away with lots of love
