Mrs. Gayle H. Accongio, age 80 a resident of Clayton, NC transitioned from labor to reward Sunday night Jan. 17 while a resident at SECU Hospice House of Smithfield, NC.

She was born in Rochester, NY May 16, 1935 to Skiff Fleming and Lillian Grace Bastian both deceased.

Mrs. Accongio was also preceded in death by her grandson, Andrew J. Johnson.

Gayle was a loving child of God, loving mother, devoted friend. Gayle was a founding member of her church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She never met a stranger and always sought out ways to give, bless others, and show God's love. She also never met an animal she didn't like. Gayle retired from the NC Department of transportation in 2001 after many years of service. She enjoyed spending time with friends, family, her two dogs, Bessie and Raven, and her cat, Sweetie Pie, reading,"puttering around her yard", and shopping at Cracker Barrel.

Mrs. Accongio is survived by two sisters; Ann D. Zentner of

California, and Jane D. Andrews of NY.

Also left to cherish her memories are seven children; Lee Ann Youngblood of Garner, NC, Teresa A. Davis of Garner, NC, Christopher John Accongio of Tulsa OK, Lawrence Robert Accongio of Tulsa OK, Susan Marie Accongio of Charleston, SC, Judy Mary Posner of Wylie, TX, Lynn A. Soles of Clayton; 21 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2920 NC42 W, Clayton, NC 27520, Thursday January 21, 2016 at 7p.m. with a reception to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gayle's honor to Holy Cross Lutheran Church (address above.), or to SECU Hospice House, PO Box 1376, Smithfield NC 27577. Please list all donations in memory of Gayle Accongio.
