Janice Marie Sapp McKay was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on April 23, 1950 to Samuel and Dorothy Sapp. She was the fourth child of six and grew up mostly in Teaneck, New Jersey where she attended school completing high school there before going to work at Prentice Hall Publishing Company. She subsequently graduated from St. Peters College obtaining her degree in Computer Science. Janice also began to date her future husband Bruce McKay at Prentice Hall before he enlisted in the military. Janice and Bruce were united in marriage August 1969, to this union one child Bruce Ivan McKay was born.
Janice enjoyed traveling, playing the piano and knitting hats for the children at Rex Hospital. Janice had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to play jokes on people. She also loved her church Interstate Ministries and was very enthusiastic about being in the choir, although she always said "I can't sing".
Janice was preceded in death by brothers Steven Sapp, Samuel Sapp Jr., sister Joyce Sapp-Holston, brother-in-law Robert Holston and father Samuel Sapp Sr. Janice leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Bruce Edward McKay, one son Bruce Ivan McKay, mother Dorothy Sapp, brother Michael Sapp (Marci), sister Karen Sapp, sister-in-laws Geraldine McKay-Harris, Ruby McKay Whitley (Tommy), Mary Lou Sapp, brother-in-law, Claude Rainford and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. McKay will be held Sunday July 23, 2017 at Interstate Ministries Church, Clayton NC. Viewing and visitation will began at 1:00pm followed immediately by funeral services at 2:00pm.
