Mrs. Mamie Ward Newsome
Mamie Ward Newsome was born on December 23, 1940 in Johnston County to the late Joseph and Essie Eatmon Ward. Her life's journey came to an end on Friday morning November 10, 2023 at her home in Smithfield, NC.
Mamie graduated from Richard B. Harrison High School in Selma, NC with the "Class of 1958". She continued her education at Livingston College in Salisbury, NC. She was employed by Johnston-Harnett-Lee Community Action Headstart Program as a teacher and Center Director for more than 40 years.
Mamie joined White Rock AME Church at an early age and enjoyed singing in choir. She also served as a Trustee, Member of the Missionary Society and Lay Organization.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Lula Ward Forte, Roxie Ward Rayner and brother Willie Lee Ward.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories to her children; Paula Ward, Rodney Ward, and Felicia Dent (Kelvin), her granchildren; Rishawn Pearce, Jamal Morgan, Kelvin Dents, and Zyra Dents, two bonus children; Jerry Lewis (Musheerah), Karen Robertson a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services: Saturday November 18, 2023 at White Rock AME Church 5226 US-301 N Selma, NC 27576 starting at 11:00 am.
